The state of Georgia is home to more than 2000 Oromos. The first Oromos started arriving in the state of Georgia in the early 1980’s. The majority of them came to escape political, economic and cultural persecution by the successive Ethiopian regimes.

Religion: At present one finds three religions among the Oromo: the traditional religion Waaqaa (God), Islam and Christianity. Waaqaa, the supreme being, is the creator of all things and the source of life.
