The state of Georgia is home to more than 2000 Oromos. The first Oromos started arriving in the state of Georgia in the early 1980’s. The majority of them came to escape political, economic and cultural persecution by the successive Ethiopian regimes.

Economy: Potentially, Oromia is one of the richest countries in Africa. Agriculture is the means of livelihood for more than 90 per cent of the population. There are a variety of farm animals and crop plants. Oromia is the origin of coffee that has a significant share in export earning for the colonial regime. For some, cattle rearing (pastorals) is still the main occupation. Oromia is endowed with a variety of wild life stock, exotic botanic resources and attractive natural and historical resources as a source of tourism industry. Oromia is rich in mineral resources too.
